Brazilian nanotechnology allows to treat skin disease with precision

🗓️ 06/06/2026 18:15
Researchers from USP (University of São Paulo) in Ribeirão Preto develop a nanotechnology platform for the treatment of skin diseases such as psoriasis and vitiligo. The technology utilizes nanoparticles capable of transporting therapeutic RNA molecules directly to skin cells to silence genes associated with chronic inflammation. The most recent results were presented during FAPESP Week London, held at the Science Museum in the British capital. The research is part of the INCT (National Institute of Science and Technology) of Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology and receives funding from FAPESP (Foundation for Research Support of the State of São Paulo) and CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development). "We started this research work 20 years ago and acquired over that time experience in obtaining and characterizing lipid nanoparticles to release not only drugs, but also interference RNAs, with the objective of treating chronic skin diseases, such as psoriasis, skin can
